Grow your business with email

Tips to get best results.

In 2022 the projected number of worldwide email users is 4.3 billion, and over 333 billion emails are expected to be sent and received each day of this year. Email marketing is one of the most cost-effective and conversion rich ways to market your business. No matter how small your business, you should be leveraging the advantages of email marketing with a strategy to support your business goals and connect with your customers. Are you getting the best results from your email marketing campaigns? Here are a few suggestions on how to improve open rates and effectiveness.

Consider long-term objectives. Most marketers work to inspire the obvious short-term goal of driving traffic and increasing sales, but the primary objectives should be to engage, build a relationship with your customers and develop trust.

Write more engaging subject lines. Inspire curiosity by using a cliffhanger such as, "The secret to a winning subject line..." Or "Wake up to an awesome vacation..." Be creative. Mix up the technique so your readers can be interested in every email. Optimize preheater text to bolster your subject line and further engage the reader (i.e. "Free shipping today only.") A/B test performance of your subject lines, email messages, etc. to gather data and make decisions that will improve effectiveness.

Optimize for mobile devices. 27% of all marketing emails are opened on a mobile device. Emails should be responsive, messaging and subject lines concise enough to fit the smaller landscape.

Personalize your messages. Add a sign-up form to your website and ask for a first name. Personalized emails deliver six times higher transaction rates, and personalized subject lines generate 50% higher open rates. Also, use a real reply-to email address to reinforce authenticity.

Hook readers with an urgent CTA. A call to action button should be easy to find (read impossible to miss), be descriptive and drive a desired action. "Buy Now" works, but change it up with something like, "Shop our one-day sale!" CTAs should compliment the header and email copy.

Grow your list. Remove obsolete addresses as it will affect deliverability and ultimately your reputation. Add new names slowly and with permission from prospects. Segment large lists (by industry, company size, etc.) and craft relevant messages to improve open rates.

Send a follow-up campaign. An average of 70% of email recipients won't open on the first send. Boost ROI by changing up your subject line and resending the email (after a few days). Keep messages brief. Short messages are more likely to land in the Primary tab.

For every $1 you spend on email marketing, you can expect an average return of $42. Nearly 50% of consumers said they would like to receive weekly promotional emails from their favorite brands. Get the most out of your marketing campaign by making sure your message is personalized, concise, focused and relevant to your audience. Captivate with a compelling subject line, hook with an urgent call to action, and send regularly (but not too regularly) to develop the relationship over time.
